What you could blog about

I guess the best way to think of a blog for me is that you can relate what you did and maybe talk about why you did that. I wish everyone in the world would blog by Chris Coyier lists five nice things you could blog about. When your reading a blog you can get a little bit of perspective on their life and their world.

Can't write directly

Tom Morris wrote some time ago about Posting UIs on the Indie Web: The type of writing we do is influenced by the tools we have, and by the experience of the services we use. I write my posts in Vim with a small script around it that adds the content to the blog post index. Then I generate the static files and publish (with rsync) everything to the server....

Start blogging

Jason Cohen wrote a nice article about starting with blogging. One of the ideas he has about this is that you start with an article written by someone else that you like. Then you quote it and elaborate or reply to it. This is a nice way to start blogging. The thing that often happens to me is the following. I follow this idea, but when I start writing I move so far from the original point of the article that it doesn’t even matter anymore to the new blog post....

Obsession x Voice

It’s already a few years ago, that Merlin Mann and John Gruber talked about the concept “Obsession x Voice”. The thing is that you have to know what you’re obsessed with. That’s hard. You could be really sad to not know what your obsession is. Not knowing is not the biggest problem however. Deep down I know I have an obsession that I would write about. I have written about it....

On a blog I can publish anything

The cool thing about a blog is, that I can publish anything that I want. If I want to favorite a video on a video sharing website, it needs to implement that for me. On my weblog I can post it just as easy.
